The "Big Chip" has a surface area of 15,300 acres with plenty of quiet coves, 200 islands, and fishable shorelines where you will find walleye, crappie, bass, perch, bluegill, white sucker, northern pike, and, of course, the official Wisconsin state fish - the muskellunge.

The world record musky was heaved out of the flowage way back in 1949. Although many have come close to breaking it, the record still stands. Abnormally large fish bones found around the lake in recent years indicate that there are still giant musky to be caught!

Wisconsin has classified the Chippewa Flowage as trophy musky water. This means that the average Chip musky is larger than the average musky pulled from other lakes. Musky reproduce naturally in The Chip, but the water is also stocked with supplemental breeding candidates to help the current population thrive.
