Thank you for joining us for the 2ND ANNUAL TREELAND PREMIER MUSKY FLY FISHING TOURNAMENT!
This past weekend Treeland Resort hosted the 2nd Annual Treeland Premier Musky Fly Fishing Championship! 57 anglers from every corner of the United States showed up for a little bit of friendly competition and a whole lot of fun!
Mother nature gave everyone beautiful weather and great tans, but slightly difficult fishing conditions. Despite the slower action they still managed to register 22 muskies ranging in size from 25.5” to 43.5”!
The event was kicked off with a Casting Contest sponsored by Pat’s Landing Resort on Thursday night. Entrants had three attempts to land their fly in a hoop. Competitive spirits soared and Ronald Smith, from Des Moines, IA won in a playoff, taking home a Just Encase Musky Fly Box.
Friday’s fishing started at 7am, with blue skies. 13 fish were registered with the largest fish coming in at 43.5” caught by Stephen Pogodeienski from Cornwall, Connecticut. He caught this on the Flambeau River with a black, yellow and green fly. His fishing partner, Kyle Sorenson, from Hayward, WI also registered a 42”, caught on the Flambeau River with a firetiger colored fly, as well as a few smaller fish.
The sun (and wind) were out for the last day of fishing, and 9 fish were registered, ranging in size from 25.5”-38”! Biggest fish of the day went to Josh Mattila, from Lake Elmo, MN. Josh caught the 38” on the Chippewa River with a firetiger colored fly.
Finishing in 3rd Place and taking home $420, with a 25.5”, 30.5” and a 39” for 27 points was Jacob Jungers (Minneapolis, MN) and Jon Jungers (Sheboygan, WI).
2nd Place payout was $850, with a 30”, 35”, 35.5”, and a 38” for 42.5 points, to Charles Wiemerslage (Hudson, WI), Ben Mattila (Casper, Wyoming) and Josh Mattila (Lake Elmo, MN).
The 1st Place Team received $1270 registering a 25.5”, 28.5”, 32.5”, 34”, 42” and a 43.5” for a total of 47.5 points. The anglers taking home the honor and cash were Stephen Pogodeienski (Cornwall, Connecticut) and Kyle Sorenson (Hayward, WI).
Biggest Fish Winner was Mr. Stephen Pogodeienski with his beautiful 43.5″, and also netted him an additional $850!
Both days of the tournament Treeland’s partnered up with the Chippewa Flowage Area Property Owners Association and set up a Clean Boats Clean Waters boat washing station. All of the anglers put forth a great effort in washing and inspecting their boats daily to help keep our lakes and rivers pristine and help prevent the spread of aquatic hitchhikers.
We’d like to thank all of our sponsors, as without them tournaments like these would not be possible. Our premier sponsor was St. Croix Rods, who donated three St. Croix Legend Elite Fly Rods that were given away each night of the tournament. We’d also like to thank the Angry Minnow Brew Pub for donating all of the beer for anglers to enjoy. And to all of our friends at Just Encase Tackle Boxes, Fishpond, Pat’s Landing and Jenk’s Bait & Tackle thank you for helping out with so many great door prizes for the anglers to win all three nights!
